Save the Date: 3 lb. Thrill In-Store, Feb. 25

On February 25th, we're proudly hosting 3 Lb. Thrill. Originally known as Uncle Green when they first formed in New Jersey in 1980, the trio relocated to Atlanta early in their career, working with local legends like Brendan O'Brien and the Indigo Girls. They've put out records with DB and Atlantic, and toured with the likes of Ben Folds Five, Robyn Hitchcock and the Black Crowes. Late last year, they successfully used Kickstarter to fund their new record, Rycopa, which was originally recorded in a tiny house in Little Five Points in 1997. It's an excellent, poppy double-album, which we've got for $10. You should really give this thing a try. The band will play that Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm, and this is an all-ages affair, with kids encouraged! The release party for Rycopa will go down later that evening at Smith's Olde Bar. Save the date!

Floating Coats in-store and CD release this Saturday!

This Saturday, April 23, our pals in the Floating Coats will hold their CD-release party right here at Decatur CD. For the unfamiliar, the Coats have played in this store more times than we can remember at this point, certainly as much if not more than any other act in the entire universe, stretching as far back as That Foul Year Of Our Lord Twenty Ought Six, according to our blog. Well, these old-school DCD gangstas are releasing their debut CD, Old Overcoat, and dang it if we're not gonna celebrate. They'll perform at 7 p.m. and have told us they'll be bringing "plenty of beverages" to boot. Sounds like fun to us. Sign up at their Facebook event page, come by and see us Saturday night, and be sure to request that one song about the Atlanta Hawks.

Alejandro Escovedo Photos

All right, so maybe it's just "photo" for right now, but we'll have plenty more (plus video!) later in the week. For now, thanks to Eddie's Attic, Alejandro Escovedo, the many, many folks who came out tonight, and Magic Hat beer. It was a blast!

Happy 7th Anniversary to Us!

We're celebrating today. You should come celebrate with us! Here are the details from the latest DCD Newsletter:

--

During all the hustle and bustle and whatnot of the encroaching holiday season, we up and totally forgot to celebrate our anniversary. So, this very Saturday, we take note of The 7th Anniversary Time Forgot. Of course, by "Time," we mean "Decatur CD," but that's just splitting hairs, right? Right. Anyway, where were we? Ah yes. Our thinking is, what the hell? Let's have some beer. That's what we usually think, so it seems only fitting to make it the theme of Saturday's forgotten anniversary party. Come get out of the cold and have a cold one on us. Bring us some little cakes while you're at it. And candles! Don't skimp on the candles! We kid, but if you bring cake, we'll definitely eat it.
