Decatur Book Festival 2008!

Consider this a friendly reminder that the Decatur Book Festival is very much almost just about to creep right up on us. Beginning in just a couple days (that's Friday, August 29th, to be exact), right in the heart of downtown Decatur, this year's festivities will feature three whole days of books, music and community goodness. Former poet laureate Billy Collins and lead Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood are just a couple of the numerous highlights. Don't miss out, folks! We're going to try to take in a few of the festivities ourselves, but remember that good ol' DCD will be going strong right down the street, should you need some plastic or vinyl discs (or DVDs or music books or televised baseball or friendly smiles or so on). Visit the official book festival website for more information:

Randall Bramblett in-store on Tuesday!

As promised in that last post and reported in a couple e-mail newsletters, Mr. Randall Bramblett will grace Decatur CD with his in-store performance presence tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19th at 6pm. Read what we wrote about him in the newsletter as a refresher and we'll see you Tuesday night:

Randall Bramblett - Tuesday, August 19th - 6pm
This legend has been releasing music for over 30 years, and we couldn't be happier that our friends at New West set this up...on a night he doesn't even have a show in town, no less! Bramblett played in Sea Level with Chuck Leavell, has toured with Widespread Panic and Steve Winwood, and has worked with other iconic music figures such as Robbie Robertson, Greg Allman and Levon Helm. He also has a new album that comes out that day called Now It's Tomorrow. We have it on a listening station right now, so stop by if you'd like to hear it in advance. And on Tuesday, come see the man R.E.M.'s Bill Berry calls, "the most talented and prolific songwriter I have the privilege of knowing." You'll be glad you did.

A little blog love from Paste

A couple weeks ago, Paste editor-in-chief Josh Jackson said some nice things about Decatur CD on the magazine's site. He also posted a touching letter from one of loyal regulars, Bruce. Our hearty thanks go out to both Josh and Bruce. You can read the post here.

Speaking of Janelle Monae...

...guess who visited the store just moments ago? That's right, the lady with the new EP on our shelves this week stopped by this evening to pay ol' Decatur CD a visit. That's her pictured above with the gigantic Young Eliot. Click on the photo to see a bigger version. Anyone catch her at Variety last night opening for Gnarls Barkley? We heard it was amazing!
