Last night, Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy and his wife, Carson Ellis, delivered the Decatur Book Festival keynote address to a packed Presser Hall at Agnes Scott. We couldn't make it (we have a store to run, people, give us a break), but we're told it was most excellent. And anyway, we weren't worried about missing Mr. Meloy, as he had promised us an EXCLUSIVE photo shoot early this morning. An EXCLUSIVE photo shoot that has now been shot, resulting in the EXCLUSIVE photos below.

Meloy is a good sport, so when we told him it was Dragon*Con weekend, he agreed that it only made sense to dress the part. All of these EXCLUSIVE photos were taken in the middle of Ponce de Leon Ave. right in front of the store earlier this morning, just moments before Meloy and Ellis hopped on a plane and headed west for Bumbershoot. We blocked off the street from Taqueria del Sol (sorry, guys!) to Jimmy John's (ditto, guys!), and a small crowd of several thousand people gathered around to watch. Please enjoy...

Decatur Book Festival 2008!

Consider this a friendly reminder that the Decatur Book Festival is very much almost just about to creep right up on us. Beginning in just a couple days (that's Friday, August 29th, to be exact), right in the heart of downtown Decatur, this year's festivities will feature three whole days of books, music and community goodness. Former poet laureate Billy Collins and lead Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood are just a couple of the numerous highlights. Don't miss out, folks! We're going to try to take in a few of the festivities ourselves, but remember that good ol' DCD will be going strong right down the street, should you need some plastic or vinyl discs (or DVDs or music books or televised baseball or friendly smiles or so on). For the few of you out there who didn't read this on our e-mail list on Tuesday, the Decatur Book Festival begins tomorrow. Take a look at the schedule and try to disagree with our assertion that it's going to be one fantastic event. Two hundred authors will be appearing, and several awesome music personalities, including pop culture genius Chuck Klosterman (who will be interviewed by Paste editor-in-chief Josh Jackson), Kinky Friedman (who received 400,000 votes in his gubernatorial bid for that crazy state of Texas) and Peter Case (who, you should know by now, will perform live at the store on Sunday). Have a look at the festival's official site and its blog for more information. And when you're finished having fun, make sure to come by DCD for Peter Case's special covers set at 5:30pm Sunday evening.

While you're enjoying the Decatur Book Festival next weekend, be sure to keep Decatur CD in mind. See, we'll be right down the street, doing the same thing we always do. Namely, providing awesome CDs and vinyl to all the good people of the Atlanta metro area (and some choice visitors from out of town). But something particularly exciting to remember is that we'll have the one and only Peter Case performing on Sunday, Sept. 2. Yep, the former member of The Plimsouls and current solo artist/author will play at Decatur CD at 5:30pm. The show is all ages and free, of course, and we'll be providing delicious high-gravity beer as per usual for the 21+ crowd. Mr. Case will be playing a special covers set for us, and it's not to be missed. Later in the evening, he'll play with another past DCD in-store artist, Tommy Womack, at Eddie's Attic. Fun day, right?
