National Grain in-store performance photos

Decatur CD's house band, National Grain, performed in the store on Saturday afternoon to help us do a little early birthday celebrating. Apparently, it could be one of the group's final performances, which makes us quite sad. (On a parenthetical note, we're hoping for a super reunion show sometime in 2007. Don't let us down, guys.) The band turned in another excellent performance, mixing covers of The Replacements (two songs!), Gram Parsons and George Jones into a set of original material.

We also had a fancy 20% off everything sale, so if you missed out on the great, live tunes and discounted music (did we mention the free beer as well?), shame on you. Here are a few photos. Click on any to enlarge:

Stephin Merritt gets awkward on Fox 5

Just recently, Stephin Merritt (of Magnetic Fields) was in town promoting music from the Lemony Snicket audio books that his other band, the Gothic Archies, performed. While in Atlanta, he stopped by Fox 5 Atlanta for one of the most uncomfortable interviews ever. Enjoy the smarmy anchorman and the ever-sarcastic Merritt below:

Starting at 5pm, we'll be serving nice (think: not Bud Light), free adult beverages to those of 21 years of age and above. Stop by, say hello, get a buzz and buy some discs. See you then!

Paul Westerberg autographed guitar giveaway!

Decatur CD loves The Replacements. We might as well get that out there. When the excellent, recently-released retrospective, Don't You Know Who I Think I Was? arrived at the store, we probably played it once a day for a month or so. Great, great rock band.

So it's no small honor, then, that we can say we've got a guitar autographed by Paul Westerberg hanging in the store at this very moment. Indeed, he's busy promoting the songs he wrote for the soundtrack to animated flick Open Season, and you, the lucky customers of Decatur CD get the benefit. Stop by today and put your name and phone number in the box for your chance to win!

Charlie Sexton/Shannon McNally photos

Last night was an absolute blast. A hearty thank you goes out to everyone who attended (and there were quite a few of you), as well as our good friends at Capitol Records for helping us set up such a fun event. Thanks also to Charlie and Shannon for putting on an incredible performance.

And for those of you who didn't make it out to hear Shannon's jaw-dropping voice and Charlie's fantastic guitar skills, much shame. However, here are a few photos (click on any individual one for a larger version):

Above: If you look really hard, past the mass of humans, you might just spot two excellent songwriters.

Oh, and if you were there, do us a favor and leave your thoughts in the comments...
