Bob Dylan t-shirt giveaway

As you surely may just possibly likely know, Bob Dylan's got a new album of tunes coming out on Tuesday (August 29). Well, thanks to our pals over at Columbia Records, we've got a batch of t-shirts (see above) to hand out to anyone who buys said record. Of course, the promotion is only good while supplies last, so hurry in on Tuesday to make sure you get one. Also of course, anyone who pre-orders the album saves a couple bucks off the regular price (hot dealz!!!). Think about that for a minute as you look at some close-up photos of the front and back of the t-shirt below. Leave your thoughts in the comments, as usual. Thanks...

Cool Web site alert!

Our pals over at What We All Want recently poured some love all over Paper Thin Walls, an excellent (albeit, very indiecentric) resource for listening to and learning about new songs. Read more:

Ken Will Morton in-store photos

Sir Morton played for a little over an hour, and we plowed through a torpedo keg of Terrapin. Quite fun, indeed. Check it out:

It's here, it's finally here!

That's right, folks. We got a stack of import versions of the new TV on the Radio album, Return to Cookie Mountain. If you made a pre-order on this, we already called you, but if not, you might want to check it out. It's definitely one of our favorite records of the year. See what some other folks are saying:

Ken Will Morton in-store performance (with free beer!) on Saturday

Dear darling blog-checkers,

What are you up to this Saturday afternoon? Well, cancel it. No, seriously, we made plans for you. At 2pm (August 12th), Athens native Ken Will Morton will be stopping by the store to grace us with a few songs on his way to an Eddie's Attic gig that night.

What's that, you say? You're not familiar with Ken Will Morton? Allow us to shed some light onto an artist Georgia Music Magazine said "is the bitter(sweet) harvest of progressive rock/punk songwriter crawling from the wreckage with enough grace to make Tom Waits and Paul Westerberg proud." Heavy praise, sure, but we've been playing his latest, King of Coming Around, here in the store, and we really enjoy it. In fact, stop by and pick up a free sampler to get a taste of his music. Or, check out his MySpace page and hear a couple songs:

Oh, and lest ye still remain unconvinced (you've always been a hard sell, but we respect that), we are happy to say that Athens microbrew, Terrapin, is donating some delicious beer for our little shindig. What more do you need? Free beer, great live music, and plenty of smiling people. Yep. We'll see you Saturday!

Sincerely,
Decatur CD

Tower Records in (more) trouble

Looks like Tower is getting cut off from its supplier for now. There's a lesson to be learned here, kids. Pay your bills! More info:

Tower Records Cut Off by Music Companies, L.A. Times Reports
2006-08-04 09:23 (New York)

By Dan Hart
Aug. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group Corp., EMI Group Plc and Sony BMG Music Entertainment have suspended shipments of CDs to Tower Records after the company said it wouldn't pay outstanding invoices, the Los Angeles Times said, citing unidentified industry representatives. The move comes after Tower hired crisis management specialist Joseph D'Amico as chief executive amid declining sales as consumers find new ways to acquire music, the Times said. The company may be sold, the Times said, citing Tower executives. If the suspension remains in effect, Tower Records may be forced to close its 89 stores, the newspaper said. The four record companies declined to comment to the Times, as did an unidentified Tower spokesman.
