For the Love of Wilco!

It has come to our attention that the Wilco shows this Wednesday and Thursday at the Cobb Energy Center have yet to sell out. As our regular customers are aware, we at Decatur CD believe Wilco puts on one of the greatest live shows in the world. In fact, there's a section of the latest Merriam-Webster Dictionary dedicated entirely to gushing adjectives Warren has used to describe Nels Cline on guitar. Are we really going to let Nashville sell out two shows while we can't sell out even one? Come on, Atlanta! Get your Wilco tickets now!

Wilco Pre-Order/Ticket Giveaway

From a recent Decatur CD newsletter...

We've got one pair of tickets to give away for the Wednesday, September 28th Wilco show at Cobb Energy Centre. The winner's name will be at will call where they can pick up the tickets the night of the show with a picture ID, walking directly in after getting them. (It's an anti-scalper trick the likes of which Tom Waits used during his last ATL gig.) As you probably know, Wilco drops its new album, Whole Love, the day before, so we figured, what better time than to connect these two events? As such, in order to enter for the tickets, you just need to pre-order the album. You save two bucks and get a chance at some sweet tickets, we get to sell some music from one of our favorite bands in the whole world. Everybody wins!

Speaking of that new album, check out the sweet cover art:

First things first: Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated Wilco (The Album) with us. What a great time. Great tunes, great people and great beer.

Second things second: Paste concluded its Wilco Takeover (All Wilco, All Day on PasteMagazine.com) with a pair of interviews. Nels Cline and John Stirratt of Wilco! What a nice way to end the day. Check it out:

Wilco photos

On Tuesday, as many of you know, we had a little Wilco shindig. Well, we're happy to announce that it went above and beyond our own admittedly-large expectations. It was pretty funny, actually. The party started at 6pm, and literally up until about 5:58pm or so, everything was normal. There were several people in the store perusing away and we'd started playing Sky Blue Sky a little early just for funsies. Then the clock clicked over into the new hour, and just like magic, there was a line out the door. Unbelievable. It was pretty real there for a while, and the beer and pizza kept running out, but in the end, all was well. Thanks to everyone who came! Hopefully we can do something like this again very soon. In the midst of all the craziness, we didn't find time to give away all the great stuff we promised in the email. Don't worry, though, as that will happen soon. Winners will be announced on the blog and in the email. We'll also call, so watch that phone! And now, some photos. Enjoy...

You'd think Jeff Tweedy and Co. were actually in the store, judging from how packed it was for a while.

Decatur CD legend, Wilco fan and soon-to-be poet legend, Melissa, expressed some serious love for the vinyl edition of the album. So did a few other folks, as we sold out by the end of the evening.
The parking lot got a little ridiculous. Not pictured here is the back of the store, where the dumpster had two three cars layered in front of it. Silly people...

Nothing like having a little crowd out in front of the store to attract more party goers. As we think it's particularly purty, this one will be going up on the MySpace.

By night's end, Kerry and Eliot were sick and tired of the word "Wilco." It's cool, though: We let them rest and now they're OK with those five letters again.

Meanwhile, Austin spent a lot of time looking concerned and/or angry. Rest assured, though, he was having a great time.

Michael Bublé was our bouncer for the evening, throwing out all riff raff, trouble makers and ne'er-do-wells as they tried to infiltrate our gathering. Unfortunately, as we're a truly ungrateful lot, we mocked him with a sign. Nothing personal, Bublé, ol' chum!

In honor of this occasion, we're having the aforementioned listening party complete with free beer and pizza (click link for info, natch), and we hope to see you all here for the event. It's going to be heaps and piles and mounds and, um, lots of fun. However, several other awesome artists are also releasing new music tomorrow, so have a look and start making a mental shopping list:

Wilco listening party on May 15th!

Check out that above picture, folks. That's our beautiful 5X5 on the outside wall. More than that, it's the beautiful cover of the new Wilco album, Sky Blue Sky, which comes out on May 15th. In celebration of this occasion (and around these parts, a new Wilco album certainly is an occasion), our good friends at WEA/Nonesuch are fronting the bill for a post-work listening party complete with pizza and beer! That's right, starting at 6pm, we'll put on Sky Blue Sky, bust out a huge batch of interesting, high-gravity beer (for the 21 and up crowd, natch) and offer up a pile of pies from Little Azio next door. It's going to be a blast, and we'll keep it going as long as people are hanging out, so make sure to stop by and get your share of the goodies. The album is great (check it out on one of our listening stations if you haven't already), and the pizza and beer will be of the highest order as well. Also, if you've got a pre-order, make sure you stop by after 6pm to claim it. We'll see you then...
