Caroline & the Ramblers In-Store Performance

We've been playing Caroline & the Ramblers' new album, Red Hot Mama, around the clock lately. In fact, it's playing as we type this. Good thing, too, because it's an excellent collection of the rockabilly/country-inflected tunes we've come to expect from the band. Better thing still, we're gonna have Caroline and her rowdy crew here in the store on August 10th at 8 p.m. It's been a few years since Caroline & the Ramblers have played the store, so you know we're excited. Join us, won't you? And next time you're in, ask us to put the record on (it's already in rotation, after all), or check it out on headphones via the listening station post. This is gonna be a fun one, folks!

7/31/12 New Releases

This week, by and large, is about reissues. Leading the pack is the controversial, late rock icon, Frank Zappa, who's got 12 previously-out-of-print titles re-entering the market. There will be 12 per month for the next few months as well, which means we'll eventually have to return most of the rock/pop Z section in order to make room. All hail Zappa! Meanwhile, there's some other, non-Zappa titles coming this week as well. Tons of 'em, in fact. Take a look at the list below and let us know what you're looking for this week...

Frank Zappa (12 reissues!)
Kasey Chambers
Joy Division (Unknown Pleasures collector's edition reissue)
Rick Ross
Blur (deluxe reissues, box set)
Ponderosa
Charles Mingus (complete Columbia box set)
The Alchemist
Thelonious Monk (complete Columbia box set)
Leela James
Bobby Womack (Across 110th St. 40th anniversary reissue)
The Germs ('77-'79 compilation)
Phish (Chicago '94 box set)

Archers of Loaf Ticket Giveaway

Archers of Loaf are awesome. Pretty sure that's an objective fact, right? At the very least, our sales of the band's recent reissues on Merge seem to indicate that more than a few of you agree with that particular thesis statement. So, awesomeness proven, then, let's get to the point: We've got a pair of tickets to see the band on Saturday, August 11th at The EARL. They're playing two nights (Friday and Saturday) at the East Atlanta Village institution, and we're psyched to be able to hook one of y'all up with free entry. Stop by and drop your name in the giveaway box. Good luck!

John Byrne Band In-Store: Save the Date!

We've got a couple in-store performances coming up, and first on the calendar is the John Byrne Band on July 14. Here's a little bit about the band's titular songwriter via his website:

"John has toured with and opened up for acts as diverse as The Hothouse Flowers, The Young Dubliners, Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple), Gaelic Storm, The Screaming Orphans, Black 47, The Greencards, The Motels, Patti Smyth, Murder by Death and Enter the Haggis. He has also been frequently featured on WXPN, NBC 10 (2 live performances on the 10! Show) WSTW and local College Radio. John and the Band performed the VIP reception for the Liberty Medal Presentation at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia before President Bill Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair alongside the Irish Tenors."

His new album, After the Wake has been described as Luka Bloom meets Bob Dylan, which is a pretty nice description if we do say so ourselves. The next time you're in, you should give it a spin on our listening stations. Meanwhile, you can watch one of the many videos on his website from wherever you're reading this right now.

Byrne and his band will hit the DCD stage at 8pm, and at Mac Mcgee Irish Pub on the Decatur square at 4pm and 10pm. Save the date!

Speaking of awesome Irish music, we've only got a few copies of the Atlanta Celtic Christmas Concert on DVD left. It just won a Southeast Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Arts & Entertainment, so you might wanna give it a look before we're sold out.
