Moira Nelligan, egg nog and holiday fun
Join us tonight! From the newsletter:
Everybody all stocked up on holiday cheer?
We sure are. In fact, as visions of CD-adorned trees dance in our heads (no, seriously, look outside the store!), fresh off our fifth birthday celebration with the Bonaventure Quartet, we're plotting another evening of festivities. This Thursday (Dec. 11) at 7pm, Decatur roots-music staple Moira Nelligan will hold a CD release party for her new album, Christmas Folksongs, within the walls of Decatur CD. Check out her MySpace page for songs samples, and here's a little bio action:
"Georgia born and Irish descended, fiddler and singer Moira Nelligan celebrates Christmas with folk songs and fiddle tunes from the US and Ireland and Europe on her new cd "Christmas Folksongs", beautifully packaged cd with Celtic artwork by her husband, Michael Hickey. Moira sings and plays fiddle as well as piano accordion, bodhran, and recorder in imaginative arrangements of new and old Christmas songs. The collection ranges from the unusual and haunting old English ballad "the Cherry Tree Carol" and the Catalan "Fum, Fum, Fum" sung in Spanish, to a folk arrangement of the Charlie Brown theme "Christmas Time is Here" and an 80's Nashville hit "I Give You Music". Moira also fiddles lively jigs and reels and Irish airs in addition to the holiday repertoire. Mickey, 16, is joining mom as they venture from their home in Decatur, GA on their first cafe tour together this Christmas season."
We're looking forward to it, and Warren is out right now purchasing some egg nog for all the 21+ folks that show up Thursday night. Apparently we're going to have some cookies and sweets as well, but Eliot's in charge of making them, so proceed with caution. Bring your families, all; this will be a show for all ages.
